65 mustang will not stay running?

I just put a new carb on my 289. Started right up. It will sit and idle great. Give it some gas and rev great. As soon as I let off it shuts off? Any ideas?
Thanks,

I'm not an expert, but I would check the float level first; also, does the carb still have a dash pot ( the thingy on the linkage that prevents the throttle from closing too fast)? Is the choke working properly? It should be partially closed until the engine warms up. There are a lot of folks on here that know a lot more than I, so wait, and good luck!

If it leans when it starts, look for a vacuum leak. If it gets fat when it starts, look at float level or a power valve stuck open. We need to know more to help. What year, what car, how does this happen.

Like Ole Don says, we need a little more info. If you hold the throttle at WOT, will it eventually run out? What does it do when the car is "in gear"? Is this a 2 or 4 barrel carb? Have you tried removing the float bowl cover just after it dies to see if any gas is left in the bowl?

Stick with it, this should be something simple....
