Anybody have the part number for the axle seals for a 65 galaxie small bearing, the parts stores around here can not get them any more.

Assuming you're referring to the rear seal? If so here's a page from the parts book - it's the Merc book but I think the Fords are same. Base number for the seal is 1177, I circled the ones that apply to the big cars ("A" is for the full size cars). There was some replacing numbers but if you know the dimensions, you or a good parts guy should be able to determine which Ford number is correct, which should cross reference to other brand seal #s.

Some parts guy just didn't want to take the time to break out the catalog. Any competent parts guy should be able to find you a seal by dimensions. I work for Napa, and will see if I can get you a part number on Monday.

I first tried the discount parts stores.

If you have a local Napa store, go there and see if they will take the time to help you. We take pride in our customer service, no matter the size of the sale. We have 3 countermen with over 35 years of experience, each.

It should be an easy one to look up, given the above info from the parts book and confirmation of the dimensions.

Yes, getting a good parts person to actually spend a few minutes to help is sometimes more of a challenge than it should be. I worked a parts counter for many years. It amazed me how many people would come in with a big chip on their shoulder because of the lack of interest from other people in helping them.

Finding replacement seals isn't rocket surgery.

Ron, too many parts countermen won't look beyond the computer. We keep a lot of the older paper catalogs. I get a real sense of satisfaction by watching my customers walk out with some odd old part. We will dig and scratch until we either find a part or help the customer find it from another source.

Found one I got at Napa a few years ago in the garage, its 13738 and that number cross referenced to 9568 at Autozone which claimed to not be able to get it but according to the website have it in stock. I think its time to go back to the books to look up and keep the computer to see what is in stock.

Jeff, I checked our catalog today and found two part numbers used on a 65 Galaxy. They are13738, with an OD of 2.378, and 15142, with an OD of 2.506. You should be able to get these at any Napa store in your area.

I typed in #13738 in Autozones website and it cross referenced to 9568 and said it was in stock but according to the computer they could not get one for my galaxie. I wish those big box part stores would just go away,I think its time to go back to books and just keep the computer to see if the parts are in stock and what store has it.

Jeff, do you have a Napa store close to your home? We keep both of those seal numbers in stock, because they fit a lot of Ford rear ends. I looked up the part numbers on our computer catalog.

I have one close by,I found one of the seals I got from them a few years ago and I think they had to get them from the warehouse.
