I have a 63 ford galaxie 500 5 bolt 289 with 2 speed auto transmission.I would like to put a c4 transmission in it. I have a 5 bolt c4 bell housing off a 260 mustang.what size torque conver ter would i use to keep the stall stock? Or would you all recomend putting in a 6 bolt 289 or 302 with c4? Also what shift rod would i use to connect the transmission to the bell crank so i can use the column shift? Would a 68 ford shift rod work ,or can l just fabricate? Thanks for any advise. Devildan

Just go to any good transmission shop, and they should be able to sell you a stock converter for a 65-66 mustang C-4. you might want to take the trans with you to make sure the internal splines on the converter are the same as the trans input shaft. I found out about there being 2 different ones the hard way. ruined one converter before I figured out the problem. If your 5 bolt eng runs good. this is what I would do. If your eng. is on the way out gather up the stuff for a 6 bolt 289, or a good 302 and C-4 and rebuild it. I cant help with the linkage, as I have no knowledge of the Galaxies' , but you should be able to modify the kick down linkage that was on the 2 speed trans to work. If you can get the linkage from the mustang, it may be able to be modified to work

If you have a good C4 under the bench, good. If you have to pay money for one, think hard about spending a bit more for an AOD. It's really neat when you wind up your engine to about 55 MPH then let it slip in to OD and RPM's slow to just a high idle.

If you go AOD don't overlook the AOD behind Mustang V-6. Same transmission, same bolt pattern. Many of them around and cost less (??) then the V-8 AOD.
