60hp trans conversion to open

Ron, as Hoop pointed out with his question, it depends on the transmission. If I recall correctly you have a '37 - '39 small-case V8-60 transmission. That would be a bear and would require a good machine shop, but anything is possible. Easy to do if you use either the V8-60 commercial transmission or a normal 85hp transmission (cut out to take the V8-60 starter drive). Or just use a truck transmission that is already open drive. Let Hoop know what you have and he will steer you right. He and I have hashed this out more than a few times. Good luck with the project. Greg

I have the car 60 trans but have been told you can use the 51 ford pickup trans which is open drive but need to know if the pilot shaft is the same size and if you just have to cut out for the starter to fit.

if you get a gear reduction starter , you will not need to cut the big v8 housing .
Cheers
Tony

The 37-39 engines had the small trans 1in. main shaft. The 40 60 engine had the standard 85hp trans. if you have a 40 engine the later pickup trans will fit right in. Walt
