Re: Times must be tough

35-40 stuff I was saving for patches, etc. There is ZERO interest here for sheet metal here these days. Even decent repairable fenders are worthless these days.I was surprised my ads in the local venues got no response. I was able to give some good fenders away to a few local guys who had a need for them. At least they went to good homes.

Wow. I would give it away long before I would ever scrap it.

Re: Times must be tough

ive said many times before Calif guys juge parts by how thick the paint is. i know i will get flack for this but in the rust belt we save ever thing in the past i have cut better cars up than there bilding now in years to come that move will haunt you i know some of the things i cutup in the past haunt me. one big thing that we all deal with is a place to store it for years and years and years. i have stuff stacked packed and racked. for 25 plus years i hauled cars and parts from ND. SD. Neb a freind once said its a Disease its a good Disease if there is such a thing. been there done that saw that

Re: Times must be tough

An ad in EFV/8 Times or Streetrodder Mag or Ebay or swap meet or an ad on Fordbarn and your junk would have sold. more trouble yes. quicker to junk them yes. to bad, they are gone for ever. someone would have bought them as a lot. good luck to you in your endevors.

Re: Times must be tough

I probably would have bought some '36 stuff. As it happens, what you have listed so far, the 5 window doors I don't need, or the waterfall, I am lucky enough to have a good one.

36 Roadster,

I understand where you are coming from. I have a friend who restores model As, but also collects parts. He has not been able to get rid of the parts faster than he collects them. I have tried to help him sell on the Barn, Hamb, Early V-8, swap meets, etc. He has taken parts to the recycler in frustration.

Re: Times must be tough

I just don't understand this... Is it really that hard to find a place to hold onto this stuff? Throw it in the rafters. Someone WILL need it someday. Jeez...:(

Re: Times must be tough

Its easy for guys to say, hang on to it, someone will buy it. I've considered doing the same. I have alot of old sheet metal and it take up alot of space. Probably have room for 4 more cars.

Re: Times must be tough

This is collecting time, the economy sucks so people go thru their stuff and flood the market with it, if you have anything nice hang on to it the market will come back, by the way I look at the parts listing here all the time, if you want to sell your stuff you have to bang at it, put a bit of detail into it and put it in at least once a month, if no one sees it no one is going to call, I have never seen any of these ads you refer to. put it on the hamb, theres a lot of guys on there.

Re: Times must be tough

I took another load of doors and fenders to the scrap recyclers today. Let the asians make something out of them.

I bought a very rough '36 PU in 2004. Most of the sheet metal was rough but all could have been salvaged/repaired and used. I offered all of it for free on the old Barn to anyone who would come and get it. Had many emails and calls saying they would come and get it but no one actually showed up. I was ready to haul most all of what was left to the scrap yard but just could not bring myself to actually do it. Finally, I met a guy who was building a '36 PU Street Rod and I told him he could have everything if he hauled it away. He had the original FH engine from his '36 PU that he wanted to give me and at first I said I didn't really want the engine but later said ok, I'll take it. It turned out to be a nice '36 LB block engine that I had been looking for but did not think I would ever find. Like someone else here always says on their signature..."never throw anything away" :(. And yet there are those short sighted men who will destroy that which will never be again.

Lets see what you do when you get 70+. Most of us have been collecting for years so some of you can sit back and buy at your leasure. We have all the time, space and money *******. Then to top it off, most want you to give it away.

Re: Times must be tough

Yes, currently times are tough. It's either make my mortgage payment or buy more old Ford parts. I know what I want to do, but also know what I have to do. Been that way going on 3 years now. :(

See that's what I don't get.
Say your selling a hood for $200, but you realy need to get rid of it for space.
I offer you $100, you say NO. Then take it to a scrap yard that gives you $5-$10 for it.
That's just stupid.
I went through this last weekend with a complete T frame(no body parts). Guy wanted $350, I offer $250. A BIG NO! Followed by, "I'll cut the rear crossmember off and keep the rear spring also and scrap the rest" So now he gets a $100 all together. STUPID!
