Where can i get 600-16 snow tires? The '28 phaeton is resting for the winter and the fully enclosed, heated '37 Plymouth is my winter driver. After slip sliding around this morning, snow tires may be an improvement.

Thanks in advance Fordbarn!

A couple of years ago Goodyear was still making a 600.16 "snow tire". It was a "Knobbie". Remember them? I don't think they were too effective so most people used chains. I can remember laying in the snow freezing and tryin to put the #@%%# chains on. No fun but needed to get home.

Steel 35,

About 60 years old. There were a couple of local recappers in my area that used that formulation for snow tires before studs were available. I ran a pair on one of my first cars. They worked quite well.

A full set of later 15 inch steelies with good all season radials would make a helluva difference on the Plymouth for the winter, I think, much better than a couple of 600/16 snow tires.. Radials are a lot better in the nasty season. ..B.

REMEMBER WHEN FILLING STATIONS USE TO TRACTIONISE TIRES. THEY HAD A MACHINE THAT HAD TWO ROLLERS. THE ROLLERS HAD NAILS STICKING OUT. THE CAR WOULD BE LIFTED UP ON THE HOIST AND THE TIRE SET BETWEEN THE TWO ROLLERS. THEN THEY WOULD PUT THE CAR IN GEAR AND RUN ABOUT 5 TO 7 MPH AND THE TIRE WOULD BE ROUGHED UP. THERE WAS A PILE OF RUBBER LEFT UNDER THE ROLLERS.

THE TRACTIONISER I REMEMBER WAS BLUE AND THE ROLLERS WERE PAINTED YELLOW. THE ROLLERS AND THE FRAME WERE STEEL.THE NAILS WHERE ACTUALLY LITTLE SILVER SPIKES ABOUT 3/8 TO 1/2 LONG.

I HAVE NOT SEEN A TRACTIONISER FOR ALONG TIME. THERE IS PROBABLY ONE SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD.

i GUESS IT WORKED GOOD ON WHAT THEY CALLED COLD RUBBER.
