60-61 comet outside door push button?

I know I'm missing something between the button and the door latch. I took the inside door panel off and when you push the button it comes no where near the lever on the latch. Anyone know what that is? And where to get one?

if the handles are like my 64 ranchero there should be a flat plate on the handle and a rod that connects to the lock

I've been looking for a picture of one, but no luck so far, I guess I could take the other door apart and see what it looks like.
