6 Volt fuse block?

I have a 1938 Ford 85 Coupe and want to run a fuse block off of the ignition switch to hook up electrical connections to appropriate items - fuel guage, heater switch, etc. My question is do I have to find a 6 Volt block or can I use a 12 Volt distribution block with 12 Volt fuses or can I use 6 Volt fuses in a 12 Volt block? Any advise on how to set this up would be appreciated.
THANKS, Max

The important ratings on fuses is the amperage (current) as long as you don't exceed the max voltage rating which is typically around 32 volts. So a 12 volt block with 12volt fuses is fine.

You didn't ask, but I'll caution about putting too much load through the ignition switch. I understand that the contacts in it won't carry a lot. I would think that it will support original equipment for the car. If you are to add load to it I would suggest using the switch to trigger a relay that feeds the fuse panel.

I am going to second what 40cpe said, I have had to replace several ignition switch plates because of too much amp load. I have been installing relays and fuse panels to these cars with good sucess. One more is coming in the morning to do such a change over. I had a 40 coupe that would hardly run until we replaced/cleaned the "sweep" in the ign. switch
