6 volt fuel pump

I am looking to replace the electric fuel pump on my '51 Merc. it currently has an AC model EP 11 pump on it. it still pumps fine, but is leaking at the rubber gaskets where it is screwed together. tried to tighten the screws, but they were already tight, not loose. If I could find a kit I would just replace the gaskets. internet search turned up nothing. also tried to find a new pump. cannot find one like mine, although amazon claims they have them, the reviews on them say that they are not ac pumps but are airtex and not a direct replacement , and do not look like the picture shown on their ad. I would rather not re-engineer the mount. the one I have mounts with 4 1/4 " bolts on a bracket. any one know of a 6 volt pump available with this type of mount that can be used along with the stock mechanical pump? trying to keep the fuel press. below @ 6psi. as I do not have a regulator. this ac EP11 has worked well for about 15 years with no regulator, and will let the mechanical pump pull through it when it is not being used . any one here have any suggestions for a pump that is currently available ? any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks---Jim

I would check with one of the carb specialists here on FordBarn, they may have access to a rebuild lkit that will let you keep your current pump. There is probably an ethanol-resistant diaphragm available.

Arent the ac same as walbro ?
I havent seen a bellow replacement kit that can take the new fuel.
If someone has a lead on it im interested to.

Flatheadmurre, I am sure that the new fuels have some thing to do with the failure, but we do not have ethanol in our fuel here in Alaska that I am aware of. not sure if the ac pump is the same as Walbro . will have to do some checking. Bob C , I sent an e-mail to rock auto. they sent a reply saying that their picture is usually a true representative of what they are selling, but since I told them about the ones on Amazon showing the ac pump and not actually being an ac pump they were going to ck on it and get back to me. we will see. Ca Victoria, I just placed an order with speedway 3 hrs before I discovered the fuel leak. they are pretty proud of their pump. I have found that same pump for about $58.00 and may end up using that if one is available up here in Alaska. problem is that most of this stuff that fits our old cars is never stocked in the stores and we end up paying half as much or if not as much in freight as the part cost. I will see what I come up with and let you all know. thanks to every one who replied to my questions.-----Jim

Airtex sells a 6 volt low pressure electric pump that is tolerant of todays fuels. Available at most auto supply stores or Amazon. Part number E8902

I've always had good luck with Rock Auto, sorry to hear about a problem. Quality parts at very low prices, a lot of NOS stuff.

We buy them from C&G. They flow through so the mechanical pump can be retained. Six volt type is $70, 12 volt type a few dollars less.

supereal, I am cking into that pump now. have not made a decision yet, still trying to find something local, but will have to wait until Monday.

Jim, Like Craig, I have had good luck with the Airtex E8902 pump. Mine is used to prime and to escape the vapor lock situations. I like the fact that this pump is low volume and you wouldn't need a fuel pressure regulator in most cases. I also use a "momentary" toggle switch to activate it, which springs back to the "off" position when you take your finger away from it. Good luck, Pat

Thanks Pat, that is one of the pumps I am considering, but no one in the state of Alaska seems to have one in stock, and having to order one will add between $15-30 for freight. the same for ordering out of state . $20 + to ship a part that would fit in a priority USPS small flat rate box. what a racket these parts places have. they could bring it in with their stock order , I can wait a bit. but they will not give a date of arrival if I do. going to ck on a place in town on Monday that was closed over the weekend.----Jim
