6 volt fuel pump

I am looking to replace the electric fuel pump on my '51 Merc. it currently has an AC model EP 11 pump on it. it still pumps fine, but is leaking at the rubber gaskets where it is screwed together. tried to tighten the screws, but they were already tight, not loose. If I could find a kit I would just replace the gaskets. internet search turned up nothing. also tried to find a new pump. cannot find one like mine, although amazon claims they have them, the reviews on them say that they are not ac pumps but are airtex and not a direct replacement , and do not look like the picture shown on their ad. I would rather not re-engineer the mount. the one I have mounts with 4 1/4 " bolts on a bracket. any one know of a 6 volt pump available with this type of mount that can be used along with the stock mechanical pump? trying to keep the fuel press. below @ 6psi. as I do not have a regulator. this ac EP11 has worked well for about 15 years with no regulator, and will let the mechanical pump pull through it when it is not being used . any one here have any suggestions for a pump that is currently available ? any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks---Jim

I have the Airtex 6 volt pump on my '50 Ford and only use it to prime the carburetor when the engine sits for over a week. On normal driving, the pump is simply turned off and the mechanical fuel pump pulls through it okay. Ted Eaton.

Ted, do you know the number on your AirTex pump? is it the E-8902 or the E-8011? the 8902 is supposed to be 2 1/2 -4 psi. and the 8011 is supposed to be 5-8 psi. I have the E-8011 and that is what is on the decal on the pump. I bought that pump years ago as a back-up and never took it out of the box, as it was supposed to be a direct cross for the old ac ep-11 pump. guess I should have checked back then. I was also given a part number E-84259 but have not been able to get specs on this pump yet. as much as I like Alaska it sometimes sucks when it comes to getting parts. thanks for your help.-----Jim

Jim. Afraid I no longer have the box the pump came in. I will look at the pump on the car though and see if there is still a number or tag on it. At the time I ordered it, I wasn't given an option on the pressure and I was simply happy to have found a pump that was suitable for a six volt positive ground.

Thanks Ted, no need to crawl under your car, I appreciate your offer though. I usually let the pump run all the time since the pump I had was a pulse type, where once the float bowl was full, the pump quit pumping. I did have it on an on-off switch in case I wanted to shut it off. never had a problem with running it this way. -----Jim

I highly recommend the AirTex unit. Always use Sta-Bil Marine Ethanol Treatment with all systems. Protects the pumps, carb, regulator, guages, and seems to greatly improve the life of the rubber parts.
