6 Volt Alternator Install ? ? ? ? ?

I agree that the stock 6v system is just fine when all in working order. I went with 12 volts because I had a plan to have an original radio rebuilt with modern guts, which I never did, and I went with the whitney because 1, they look like stock, 2, they are supposed to have a front bearing capable of taking the load of the generator mounted fan that all the early v8's have. The "powergens" do not have a good reputation if you search some old threads.
Why do they not recommend sealed beams? I dunno. Sealed beams do take more amps than stock bulbs of the era, and the whitney puts out more than a 3 brush generator, but perhaps less than the later2 brush generators. I think there are numbers on their website.

Thank you both, Denny & RKS, for your comments. I'm got a 6v Optima battery in my 46 and use the battery tender to keep it charged. I think you've both convinced me that changing over to an alternator would not be worth the cost for me. Thank you!
