When I found I didn't have a resister/reducer on my truck, I had already driven it for over 20 years, so I decided if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Even after redoing the truck and making all new harness, I was suspicious of how it might work when I was done. If I had made the change to 12v originally, or if I ever do one in the future, I would use s voltage reducer.
