Re:6 to 12 volt

I have a 49 F1 flathead six and heard that you don't have to convert everything over just the alternator, a converter for the 6 volt heater and instruments but can use the old starter. Someone also told me about an 8 volt battery but never heard of that one????? I am brand new at this including the forum so I say thanks in advance for your assistance.

If I have to buy all of these parts who do you recommend?

Thanks again.......

6 v works fine when its all good. big battery cables, good grounds, good battery. 6v will also charge your phone or gps if thats your issue

Research 8 volt batteries in the archives. In my opinion you are just covering up a problem and creating new ones. It would be interesting too try and find an 8 volt battery on the road. It is best to know your general location when recommending sources for parts, making it a good idea to add your general location to your profile.

What is the reason to convert? If you are not needing to run modern 12v devices, you are better off getting the 6v up to speed.
