6 or 8 volt?

Still Runnin'

any one running an 8 volt battery?

Need to buy a new one this week, my old Uncle recommended 8v.

He is usually right, but I saw no mention of 8v as I looked back through the posts here.

Is 8v ok, or should I stick to 6?

Thanks.

I have a Model A friend who bought a '30 coupe with an 8 volt battery in it. He went through a lot of light bulbs before he put in a 6 volt.

The generator needs to have an output voltage of 10V to 12V to charge an 8V battery. Thus the 8V battery makes no sense. Keep it stock with a 6V system or go to a 12V system.

Mine came with a 8 volt battery. Burned out several bulbs, quickly switched it out with a 6 volt - haven't replaced a bulb since.

Besides the bulb problem, there was a recent post where they were chasing a charging problem, turned out the be an 8 volt battery keeping the generator from cutting in.
The added 2 volts are not worth the problems they may cause.

The 8 volt battery compensates for poor wiring and is a bad way to "fix" a problem.

With good wiring and a good 6 volt battery the car starts\runs fine.

I don't know Bill, gonna be a 109° in Southern Oregon by Friday. 160V into the the house AC is sounding like a deal.

BTW, on a 6V system lights will tolerate 9.2v. Even at that their life will be shortened. Ever hook a 6V bulb to 12V? By the time you realize the mistake it's DOA.

My T is 95 this year and it's 6v. I'm thinkin it made this long so I'm not gonna fix it.

I thought it might be great to try the 8 v and replaced a lot of bulbs. You can't turn on any lights when the Gen is charging or it will pop the bulbs. I had to remember to turn on lights when at an idle. Not much fun, and didn't really notice any real improvement in starting or power. Went back to the 6 v and haven't tried that again. Just my thoughts,
