6-21-28 radiator question

I have been trying to find info on 28 rads not much out there! I know my uncle put a used rad on his 6-21-28 gas tank date touring about 40 years ago when his was leaking. I am sure he would save the old one, this rad has been soldered and painted I wonder if this is the original to the car? He's 98 and doesn't remember. my guess is he had it fixed and never put it back on. From what I have looked up this is a round tube funnel top? If it is the original I will put it back on the car!

That looks original and it would be used with a fan shroud. There was a change in the bottom tank, as well as minor changes it the top tank, and these are well pictured in the Restoration Standards.

Like Tom said, bottom tank looks like it was replaced. Looks like Original Radiator to me. I know its an original core....look at the indention on the header no after market mfg. did that.

What I meant to say was Ford made minor changes to the tanks, and they would be pointed out in the Restoration Standards. Your radiator looks all original, but I'd have to look in the Standards to see when the bottom tank changed, as some were sloping like your's, and some were flat across the bottom.

Thank you guys. I guess I will assume that's the original rad. Now it looks like I will need a fan shroud!

good point Mitch I will at least flush it and check it the best I can. if this is the rad off car it was changed for a leak no other problems, it has been soldered and sprayed black, I will strip the paint off, the thing I like about this car it doesnt have any shiny parts! I placed an ad for a fan shroud in the want ads already!

I am pretty sure the radiator in you picture is a 1929 radiator. The lower tank is what makes the difference. I am posting a picture of a 28 radiator below. Note the bottom frame steel piece is flat across the bottom except for the outlet area. I have two 28's and two 29's so I am pretty sure what you have is a 29. They are interchangeable if you just care if it fits and not concerned if the radiator is correct for a 28.

Rusty is right, and also look at the lower mounts. The 29 may not have the 2 extra holes for mounting the fan shroud.
