59AB L Block Modify

Drunk & greasy , when you offset grind the crank to gain the extra stroke , you must grind it to the 2 inch size pin ie. 21A rods .8ba rods are a bigger pin size .Crank pin that is.

Thank you for the information. What you are saying to me that I should bore the block 3 5/16" and a stroke of 4 1/8" would be a good street motor for my 32 five window. Do you recommend 4 or 3 ring pistons? I have a 59-L block that is factory releived but is does have crack cylinder wall to intake valve.

I talked with a guy that removed his 3 5/16 inch flathead and had had it bored to 3 3/8 inches because he had have a 296 ci flathead. Nothing else was changed, it ran 40 degrees hotter afterwards. I've seen two blocks ruined trying to bore them to 3 3/8 inches. That might have been an ok idea sixty-years ago when you could buy a brand new block with no internal rust in it. I would not go over 3 5/16 inches on a street engine unless you had a block that would not clean up without boring it larger.

DS I would suggest 3 ring , the 4th ring is just drag/friction .Jack Roush,s 40 coupe I have had for the last 6 or so months has a 4 1/4 stroke crank 3 5/16 bore , runs like a scolded cat with just a single stromberg 48 carb. it has wiesco pistons with real thin motorcycle rings . It uses zero oil even running it hard for a few hours straight.
He gave me one of these cranks & I intend to build the same engine .

Would your cylinder wall to intake valve crack make this block unusable? Whats the best method to fix this problem if it can be fixed? Be a shame to spend the money, only to have it fail down the road.

I have fixed this by pinning the crack all the way from one end of crack to the other , then grind off pins , sleeve cylinder & put in a new valve seat . But I would not do this to a block I were going to put alot of money in like a big bore stroker engine . I would only do this to a more stock type engine.

Cracked block= sleeve .
Then add a 4 inch crank
and you have 255ci. Schneider 270F cam, 3x2 intake , heads and you`ll be fine.

Or get a new block(crackfree) and buy Scat balanced 284 assembly.
3 Ring Ross pistions.
