59ab distributor

I have a condensation problem on my 36 that has the 59ab engine and need to clean the points and distributor. I paid someone to do this before when car would not start or was hard to start. I would like to this myself. Can I remove the dist. and clean, then reinstall or do I have to readjust timing and points. Please help explain procedure.
 
As a boy my father did this on I can't count when these ruled the highways. He would remove passenger side top radiator hose very little coolant drip in a container bend hose out of the way then remove fan from that side now distributor is wide open. remove dist. cap remove feed wire remove two bolts but just notice which way the rotor is pointing although it only goes in one way. Then he replaced points rotor and cap then set the points ah around .015. This is a gas station / shop and No body around here had a expensive distributor machine maybe a dealer. An out the door in under an hour and most of that was fan install but he made a special pry bar for that. Can't be done on the engine unless a magician. I practice this today and yes
a lot said on line about rulers and strobe machines what ever. This works for me.sam
