I just acquired a 59 series flathead motor with factory relief. it had stock 59AB heads. Are there any aluminum heads available for a relieved engine any more? In the day I'm told that mostly only track motors would use relieved blocks with appropriate heads.

Just thought I'd throw it out there.

There is not a specific aftermarket head for a relieved vs non-relieved block that I am aware of. The relieved blocks may or may not improve flow into the cylinder, but it does reduce the compression ratio (CR). Aluminum heads such as Edlebrock are available in various CRs. When you are estimating your specific CR you need to keep the relief in the block in mind.

It's been said that a relieved block is about 1/2 apoint lower, but I've never measured it
