Anyone know the 59 F100s pretty good? My wife got me a retirement present a few months ago - a 1959 F100 - 292, floor-shifted 4 speed, no radio. It's original, #s match but needs a resto. I'm wanting to learn more about the 4-speed trannys in this truck.

Any info/website, etc., would be great. I want to build the 292 to be a reliable cruiser as I'm going to use this truck for my shop...Sonic Garage Guitars.

Thanks in advance for any info or pointing me in the right direction.

Deuces!

The truck four speed is way different than a passenger car four speed. If you want to use the truck in the woods to pick up fire wood, the first gear would be great. If you wish to haul sail boat fuel or a guitar, consider replacing the four speed with a modern five speed.

They were called granny trannies for a reason - SLOW in 1st gear. Great for pulling stumps but terrible for pullin' hole shots. I don't remember what make they were back then - maybe Spicers? The newer 4spd truck trans were New Process, if memory serves the were model NP435s and almost the same as the Dodge Power Wagons used. But yes, totally different from the car transmissions.

It is probably a t98, scrape the crud of the top and if it is t98 will be cast into the top.
