59 Block Oil Pump and Pan Compatibility

I’m putting together an engine with a 59 block from parts and have what looks like the “soup can” style oil pump. From what I can tell, it probably came off the 1934 engine that was originally in the car. It's in good shape and was thinking of using it.

The oil pan I have doesn’t seem to match up with this pump setup, baffle is in the way. I also have an oil pan baffle that appears to fit the pump but doesn’t fit in the pan.

Before I start hunting for more parts, is the move here to find a different pickup for this pump, or am I better off matching the pan to the pump setup instead?

Interesting. If it were myself, I’d get the correct pump and pan for the 59A. Speaking of the pump/pan I noticed that in one of BarryT Garage YT vids, the style of pump they showed was the same as the pump I used in my C59A, and it had a “baffle” attached to it. That baffle fit perfectly into a hole in the baffled pan. Both my C59As had the same pump, but had truck pans with the large removable clean out and no baffle.

The oil pan shown in the video has what we would consider a windage tray it fits the latter 8BA type blocks. That type of pan was found on the flathead engines used in Mercury cars with the 4 inch stroke crankshaft's. This type of pan is a great starting point for anyone who would like to reduce the oil windage caused by the crankshaft. The pickup bolted to the oil pump completes the windage tray design by closing off the area where the oil pump is located.

The oil pan shown in the posters first post is a 46-48 59 series pan. The pan is one piece with an attached "bell housing." I would look for an oil pump and screen to fit that pan.
