Need help trying to remove flywheel on 59ab engine. Motor is stuck and I can't seem to figure out how to remove the flywheel dowel retainers. They are marked D in this photo, at least this is what I think they are. I can get the flywheel off but get remove it because the dowels are in the way.

Try knocking the top one only in as far as it will go. Don't go mad, just tap it in until it feels solid.

It's the top one that hangs up sometimes, ideally if the crank turns you want the dowels at 3 and 9 o'clock position.

Mart.

Those dowel pins are supposed to stay in the crankshaft flange, but sometimes they do get stuck in the flywheel. I don't believe that flywheel will come off anyway with the oil pan still in place unless you happen to have a two piece truck oil pan.

Yes, get the pan off and then use a pry bar on each side between the wheel and the block to wiggle it and pry it off.
