'57 Thunderbird Rear Glass.....Again

I did receive several words of advice several weeks ago concerning the installation of my rear glass. I had two experienced car guys help me install the glass and haven't had an issue until now. The glass came out again and I have a couple questions. Anyone ever use polyurethane or sealer when installing this glass? My seal looks good but I want to get a known good seal, so where is the best place to get a quality seal? Thanks....again.

I don't know if Dennis Carpenter has it, but his products are usually good.

Do you mean the rear window came out by itself?

We noticed the glass coming out when we picked up the top to reinstall it onto the car. We finished removing the glass so it wouldn't fall out during top installation.

My back glass was in when I bought my bird in 1999. But these tops are known to "spread" out a bit when stored off the car. Then the pins on the center hold downs by the back of the seat are too wide to locate properly. I suppose that could also warp the back and affect the rear window fit, but I haven't heard of it. That glass should be a pretty tight fit if the seal is good. Do you have the trim on and do the rear, side and front clamps line up?

I can't help with securing it in the top, but many years ago, about 1964, I had a '55 T-bird. The car was running particularly well on Sunday afternoon so I took it out south of town where a new 4-lane highway was built but not opened. I started at the top of a long hill and opened it up. It was wound up pretty tight when I heard a wwwwwWHOOSH. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw the back glass flipping over and over high in the air. It exploded when it hit the pavement. I went back and found the gasket and every piece of the stainless trim, even the little clips that cover the joints in the stainless.

when I had my jeep pickup the glass man installed both windows with the urethane in the rubber this way you get a seal and bonding you could do it in 2 steps urethane the gasket to glass let it set then install and stick the nozzle under the seal and apply between the gasket and flange of window opening
