57 ford

Try having someone push down on the front of the hood when you are pulling the hood release. Sometimes that works. Then fron underneath see if you can spray pent fluid up on the hood release under the hood. Can you take the grill out from outsside???? That about all I can think of without being there.

Look high up on the firewall, behind the radio and above the trans tunnel. You will see a round rubber plug. Remove the plug, and using a screwdriver as a lever, release the latch.

The plug is visible behind the latch in this under hood shot.

I'm not familiar with the '57s only that they open 'backwards'. Somebody posted a similar problem on ybocksforever:

ISSUE: I'm sure this has happened before. 57 Ford Custom hood cable either broke or came unglued from its moorings. How do you get the hood released? One site said remove a rubber plug from inside under dash. Is this behind the heater box, thus it needs to be removed?

RESPONSE: the plug is in the center of the car on the top of the transmission hump, where it meets the cowl. remove the plug and pry the lever side ways after you get it fixed, a good idea is to leave a small cable or wire hanging down by the bell housing, so it can be reached from under the car. hope this helps tom
