57 ford wagon toe board question

I have to replace almost all of the pass toe board but have quick question. I saw a pic of a 58 and I saw the front body mount right where I need to cut the sheet metal out. What issues am I going to run into when I cut and then go to reweld new metal in? I have a plan to 'cut and butt' as Fitzee says.

Can you show a photo of where you need new sheet metal?

Are you using a repro pan section? If so, it should have the body mount recess stamped.

Old and new plus roughly where I am thinking of cutting and welding. Not a fan of removing more good metal than I have to. I will be going right to the edge as I have a hole and thin metal on the right side where the weldthrough primer is.

If you weld the toe board section to the pan section. it will not disturb the mount location, right?

The mount will not (should not) put that much pressure on the weld if solid. The stress will be on the mount insulators/frame brace.

Ok. When I saw a picture of someone else’s car I went “crap”. Now I have to drill out a bunch of spot welds. Oh well, I will dig into her tomorrow and I will see what I get myself into.

For someone who is about to replace their TB, here is what to expect. Lots of spot welds that need to be removed and then a corner where several pieces come together (lower right corner). Still need to figure out to righter replace that metal or repair it. Next up will be filling in my cut marks, clean and rust paint the support and reinstall the TB. Well I hope that happens….

The trouble(s) with rust is just like cancer, if you don't cut it all out it will just keep eating.
