57 Ford Wagon new engine makeover

In all the years that I was parts manager at Ford dealerships, I sold thousands of Motorcraft filters - wholesale, retail and for everything from Escorts to LT9000s. I remember only 2 instances of defective oil filters, one was a bad gasket/seal and the other one had crossed threads. Some truckers were fussy and asked for Caterpillar, Fleetguard (Cummins), Luberfiner or Baldwin filters for their trucks but I don't recollect anyone asking for a Fram.

Personally - I'm a big fan of OEM filters, whether it's AC, Motorcraft or whatever brand the manufacturers use.

Filters and oil are two things where most people are very loyal to a certain brand. In my personal preference, I use only Valvoline and Wix filters.

We cant say it to often. If you have a new engine to break in, or stronger than original valve springs, use a motor oil that contains zinc to lube those lifters and cam. Extra zinc in a bottle, STP, or motor oil meant for a diesel.

New motor is in, finally. Got a ton done today. More work tomorrow. Still waiting on the headers to come in. Lots of progress today though, feeling great except the sunburn on my head.

Weekend update. Getting very close to firing it up. Lots of small stuff done, carb on, dist in, plugs back in. Vacuum lines ran, fuel lines connected, wiper motor reconnected, starter installed, throttle linkage painted and reinstalled.

Borrowing some manifolds to get by til my headers show up. Those will be here later this week.

If all goes as planned I should be able to fire it on Sat.
