57 Ford hood squeak

Might try some white grease (spray can) on the hinges and the latch, anything that moves. Where is the squeak coming from exactly.

I spray WD-40 on them, stops the noise and makes the hood open much easier. It does require periodic application, don't know of a permanent fix.

Through the years, I have had several 57 Fords with noisy hood hinges. I have always used 30 wt motor oil as it will last and last. WD40 only works for a little while and then the noise comes back again. The squeaky hinge gets the oil.

Thanks everyone. I've tried to spray some stuff like WD40 in the past. I may not have sprayed enough. There were some good ideas I hadn't tried. I hate having a nice car and then it sounds like a old coffin when you open the hood. I'm expecting a Vampire to pop out. Thanks again for the ideas.

WD 40 is not a lubricant, therefore while it will act as a lube for a short period (so will any liquid even water), it will not endure. It is a water displacent, hence the WD in WD 40. Use a light oil such as 10 Wt, or silicone, or white lube, or even graphite. Save the WD 40 to dry out your plugs when they get wet. I know the label says it will lubricate things and it will in estremely light duty circumstances, but it won't last and any lubricant will serve you better.

I use a lube that has graphite in a carrier fluid. The carrier fluid evaporates and the remaining graphite lubricates the hinge (or whatever). I think the original purpose for it was lubricating M/C cables and speedo cables.

Label is long gone so I can't give a name.

Try Liquid wrench with Graphite or Liquid Wrench with PTFE (teflon). Both are a "Dry Lubricant" meaning the carrier fluid drys and leaves the 'good stuff' to lube.
