'57 F100 Arm Rest Installation

My '57 didn't come with an arm rest so I bought one for driver's side door. It came with a couple of metal clips and the mounting screws. Where do the metal clips fit ? I'm assuming inside the door somehow, but is there a slot that they fit into inside door there ?

Thx....Mike

Probably if you remove the door panel you'll find 2 pre-existing holes where the screws go. Then it's just a matter of matching those to the door panel. A sharp awl comes in handy here. I have no idea what the clips are for.

I am assuming(and that is usually dangerous) that even though my Ford is a '50 the arm rests are similar. The metal clips go into a slot in the door frame and fit loosely. This enables you wiggle the long screw around until you hit the hole in the clip. Get them both started before you tighten either of them. Once you get the door panel off it should be obvious how it works. Good luck!!

Okay thx guys? That is. Tomorrow's project.

Today I put on a new door weather strip. Guess what......the door won't shut now !

Whatev.......!

I think you will find the door will be hard to close until the new rubber is compressed.if it is correct for your door.you may have to push real hard to close then leave for a day or two in the sun.when pushing try to push on the edge NOT in middle of door or you will have a new project removing the dent.:)as to the clips as said it will be clear once you remove panel.the door will take time

Not to go too OT, I ended up adjusting the striker plate on my door till the weatherstrip took a set, then again until the door lined up. I figured it was better than slamming it shut. Took a couple months.

So......moved the stricken plate and let it sit in the sun and bingo.....door slammed shut !

Thx......Mike

I didn't get the clips or screws with mine so I put them on with fender washers and a nylock nut. It's good to have them on both sides so people don't slam the door with the door handle.

Willow.......that's tomorrow's project. I will get one for the other door once I get the drivers side done.

Thx.....Mike

50...

No slots. The clips are designed on an angle with small spurs in each corner. The hold down holes in arm rests are on the same angle. You reach underneath and hold the small stamped clip until to get the screw started and then tighten. The small spurs start to dig into the inside panel and as you tighten they hold everything in place so you can make it all tight. Works great !

I really didn't understand at first but once I saw the angled holes in the arm rest and looked closely at the clips the light bulb came on. It is very solid when tightened down..
