'57 F-100 transmission tunnel.

Is there different height transmission tunnel used on the 4 speed floor shift model of these trucks?

I may have a line on a small block that has a top load car 4 speed bolted to it and am wondering if the existing tunnel will work or if I will need to find the appropriate one or build something custom to make the top loader work.

Is it a "granny gear" 4 speed? If so, yes you will need a slightly taller cover. The cover for that transmission bolts to the floor pans vice being stamped in.

Car 4 speed. Guy has it and engine in a truck he picked up as junk from an estate that just wanted it gone. No real specifics just yet in which of the top loaders other than car. Same on engine, 289, 302 or 351.

My truck has a screwed down transmission tunnel, checked that out last night.

The shifter on a Ford 4 speed toploader (60's and later trans) is off to the side of the extension. Most likely, you will have to modify the tunnel

I may see if I can look at the existing truck before he pulls the transmission and engine to either get an idea or whack the tunnel from it to weld into mine.

Since we don’t know the year/model it came out of, here’s a list of top loaders that might be helpful. 2 pages

The other thought is some late top loaders had a 1:1 third gear, and an overdrive 4th. There’s a bulge on the passenger side of the case on those. Most of them had very wide ratios and weren’t a race transmission like we think of as top loaders. Might look into that if you’re not aware of them.
