56 T-bird carb

Hi Everyone,
I am not new to the Fordbarn but spend most of my time on the early V8s, as in my 36.
Now, I'm working on my 56 t-bird. I'm trying to determine what brand carb it has. It's a 4-barrel in a 312 engine. I also need to know where you guys buy a kit for the carb. Last time I drove the car, it acted like it wasn't getting enough gas. Since the car hasn't been driven
much in the last 5 years, I think maybe a new carb kit is in order.
Thanks for the help.

It's better known as a Holley Teapot carb. 1956 version is not interchangeable with the 55 or vice versa.

Mikes' carbs sells a kit for it.
Those are difficult carbs to rebuild proper, treacherous really - they're referred to as a 'flamethrower' because of the design - If you aren't very experienced at carb building you should send it to a carb shop.
I do them and there are several others as well.
If it were a normal holley carb or rochester I'd never make this offer, I'm not seeking work per se.

There is a guy on The Barn that goes by scicala that is well versed in your type of Holley that may be able to help you out.

Get your kit from Daytona Carbs down in Florida. I have rebuilt several of these and there kits are very much a quality kit. Built right, fits well, and ethanol compliant with today's fuel.

Hello Royal Ryser, I agree with what everyone is saying about the Holley teapot 4 bbls. Very difficult to work on. Not the carb you want to take apart, clean and just reassemble with new gaskets etc. If you have carb experience, you can do it, but will be a memory for you for a while. Hopefully a good one.

I can help you out if you want. If you do it yourself, in my opinion, do not waste you're money on an expensive kit. You can get a basic kit (without secondary diaphragm) from O'reiley's for about $22, or one with a sec. diaphragm from Carbjunkys on EBAY for $49.99 with free shipping. These also have alcohol compliant parts in them. The kit number from O'Reiley's is Walker #15136.

Thanks to all for the good replies.
Sal Cicala, how much do you charge for a rebuild? What is the tunaround time?
I have "rebuilt" this carb in the distant past but didn't realize they were so particular. When I hear back from you, I will decide whether to send it to you or rebuild it myself. How important is it to replace the secondary diaphragm? It seems like a costly item, but maybe necessary.

Thanks again, all.

Hello Royal Ryser,

I sent you a personal message (PM) about you're questions.

Thanks, Sal Cicala

There is a guy in PA (Mike Suter) who is an expert on these carbs. He actually runs them before delivery. 215-757-3678. He has done mine and I am very happy with the result.
