Is a stock 56 Pass. car 292 oil pump shaft six sided so that i can just drop in a 64 f100 dizzy? Are the 61-64 f100 dizzys the same? thanks

You don't want to use a '56 and older distributor in your truck. it is a Load-o-matic, no mechanical advance. Your carb is not set up for it and it WILL run like SHEET... '57 and up only...

Oops, Sorry. Misread the question and jumped the gun. Didn't want you to install a load-o-matic in your truck and be disappointed.

So, Yes the shaft is the same and will fit.

Y-Blockhead, I think he has a 1956 Passenger car that he wants to install a distributor in that came out of a 64 truck.
Yes the hexagon drive shaft is identical and the dizzy is a pefect fit if the truck had a Y-block.
The 64 dizzy will have the vacuum advance and mechanical advance feature, so you can hook up your original vac line from your 1956 carb to the distributor vac advance.

BUT, just to be fair, my '55, 292 y-block still has the original '55 load-o-matic distributor and the original '55 2-bbl carburator and she pulls off the line faster than anything else I have driven in the last few decades, and she doesn't lose any ground goin uphill either. Nothin wrong with the load-o-matic as long as the carb is clean and the vac advance diaphragm is still in good shape. But by all means, if you have a newer dizzy with the mech advance, go for it.

Dave, Thanks for straightening me out, I think  Still confused by his question tho.

Anyway my point was not to use a Load-o-matic with any carb except the one it was designed for, like your setup.

Lastly, ensure you connect the new distributor to ported vacuum on the carb, not manifold vacuum.

Good point Y-Blockhead. He didn't mention if he is still using the original carb or the newer "lowboy" style carb that was popular up till the mid 1970's.

Did you know that the '56 carb is actually a completely different carb than the '55 carb? To look at them side-by-side, they look the same, but the '56 carb has a larger diameter air horn and bigger holes at the throttle body. the 1955 and 56 oil bath air cleaners are not interchangeable. Also the venturi guts and the exterior linkage are completely different. Although, most of the internal gaskets from a kit will work for both carbs.
