My dad has a 56 2 door ranch wagon that came with the mainline trim package. We are looking for the front chrome ss side trim. Does anyone have a idea where we can get it? We can not find it online anywhere.

Are you sure there was a strip on the front fenders. I kind of remember they only had a chrome "MAINLINE" script on them. Remember they were a plain jane model in the lineup. If you got holes in the fender for a strip they could have been changed for the better model fenders, its a possibility. Google 56 ford main line pics. ken ct. I could be wrong trying to go back 50 yrs in memory lol. ken ct.

None of the Mainline models had body side trim. The only bright metal trim on the exterior was the belt moulding located where the top meets the main body and ran all the way around at the bottom of the windows. The Mainlines also did not have any window trim above that belt moulding.

The only side trim on a 56 Mainline was a piece on the quarter panel from the taillight to the rear edge of the door and a short piece on the rear part of the door.Late production Mainlines(called springtime specials)also had a second piece about 6 inches above and parallel with the long quarter panel piece and was painted white between the two pieces. There was no side trim at all on the front fenders.

Dave.......... The 56s did not have the belt line trim that you refer to.That was only on the 55s.

You are absolutely right. I had it in my head that he was referring to the '55, but he clearly states that his Dads car is a '56.

In fact NONE of the '56 models had the belt trim. 56's only had the trim wrap around the windshield and rear window, regardless of whether it was a Fairlane or Customline. But the '56 Mainlines had no trim at all.

56 mainlines came out with side trim in mid 56.on 2 doors it stoped just behind the door.on 4 doors it ended on rear door.i owned one.it happened because dealers complained they were to plain and they couldn't sell them.paul I believe the second piece your talking about was a dealer opition.i saw a nos set on ebay awile ago.

sometimes I forget what I have in front of me just google 1956 ford mainline and you will see all the different versions.a real sharp green one on there with white incert.if you have the right colour combo I would take on of these over a fairlane.only 2 doors had the extra piece added.

Here is the page from the factory Brochure for the 1956 Ford Ranch Wagons. The Custom model received the same side trim as the 1956 Customline Sedans etc, while the economy Ranch Wagon was based on the Mainline & therefore did not have any chrome trim on the body sides.

As Darrell correctly pointed out, the Mainlines did get a Trim Upgrade during the model year. For a detailed look at this trim, refer to the red Mainline Fordor Sedan from the original Sales Brochure, & you can see this "new" trim that was added together with an additional colour. Ford did this to try & encourage sales.
Unfortunately, there is only a small picture of the Mainline Ranch Wagon with this revised trim. Refer to the green wagon illustrated on the bottom line.
