'55 Vicky steering wheel off centre

Hello fellas,

A bit of advice needed regarding straightening my 55's steering wheel.
It's about 90 degrees out of line.
I'm shortly going to have a laser alignment job done, but I would like to get the steering wheel centred first.
I thought that the best way to sort this would be to jack it up and remove the pitman arm from the drag link. Then I was going to turn the steering wheel from full lock on one side to full lock on the other side counting the rotations, from there I can find the true centre of the box where it's meant to be 'tightest'. I believe that the steering wheel should be straight-ish at this point (unless I'm mistaken or unless the box has been mucked about with...). I was going to somehow lock the steering wheel in this position.( I haven't worked that out yet!)
From there I was going to adjust the tie rod connector sleeves equally until the ball stud on the drag link aligned with the pitman arm, then I'd refit it.
How does that sound to you experts out there?
Is there anything that I've forgotten about?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Don't bother, the alignment will do it all. They'll center the steering box and adjust the tie rods and at the end, the steering wheel will be straight.

Not 100% sure on a '55, but the steering wheel itself is probably master-splined to the steering shaft.

That's correct, as is the Pitman arm to the gear box.

Thanks fellas for your input.
I've set it up today and it's worked a treat.
It's nice not to have the speedo obscured by the steering wheel!
