I have been watching episodes of the '50's TV series Highway Patrol. It is on YouTube.
In episode 58, titled Car Theft, they have a brand new '55 T-Bird which has been rolled. They use it for the ID plate, and go steal another one from a car lot.
Neatest thing is when they lift the mangled hood of the wrecked one, and reveal three two's on it. Somebody had some money to spend on it before rolling it. Probably died in it too.
It must have been close to new, as all the police cars were 1955 also, as well as a '55 Fairlane convertible the bad guy drove.
The good old days.
PS: for some anal reason I have been keeping track of what car Broderick Crawford used in each episode. An amazing variety. The episodes are not in order, and he goes from a '54 Olds to a '59 Merc, and lots in between. He is remembered for a '55 Buick, but used a lot of others too.
