55 t bird overdrive

Just acquired 55 Bird with overdrive...unable to pull overdrive handle out when going down the road or at standstill...any ideas...thanks...Bill

The cable is frozen? Get under the car and unhook cable and pull lever forward.

Suggest you remove dabpe from car--Work the cable with penetrating oil them engine oil untel you free it up

That is a borgwarner used in a lot of different brands, like BOSSY said ,remove cable at lever on transmission move lever forward ,in sde car pull cable in and out ,lube ,be fore putting cable back on ,drive car it should free wheel ,be carefull NO back preasure to help stopping. rehook up cable and test.
