'55 headlight switch

Took my headlight switch out when I painted my dash. Pushed down the spring loaded button to release the knob and shaft when I took it out. Now I've put the switch back in, I can't get the knob and shaft to latch back in the switch. I can push it all the way in to the off position, but it comes out when I pull it out. Don't have a battery in it yet to tell whether lights are working. What am I missing? This is not my first time removing/installing a headlight switch.

Try a little dab of lube on the pointed end when installing. Sometimes it doesn't want to jump over the locking part.

Sometimes if you push the button on the light switch too much, the headlight knob shaft wont engage. Try using a little less force on the button, but it should be pressed down pretty close to the bakelight housing.
