55 ford steering column

1955 Fords had a two spoke flat steering wheel.
IIRC, for '56 some/most/all (?) were changed to a three spoke dished steering wheel.
A steering column from the same model '55/'56 would be shorter in '56 for the different depth of the dished wheel.

I'm not positive about the Fairlane's, but a quick look at the steering wheel should tell you, or measure from the dash mount to the top of the column.

'56 was the first year for Fords popular deep dished steering wheel. Yes, all '56's had them. Even the mainlines had a cheap version with just the old style horn button.
If you have a complete steering column including the gearbox from a '56, it will fit on a '55. The steering shaft and steering column are shorter to facilitate the position of the deep dish wheel relative to the floor of the car and of course the '56 does not look like the '55, so if you want to keep it original you will need to find a '55 Fordomatic steering column.

I have a 55 column, wheel, and sector from my sunliner. Not knowing where you are I have no idea if it would be practical to ship.
