I am in the process of restoring a 55 Ford, 2 door Fairlane. It has a 272 Y-Block. I would like to put a late model engine and automatic transmission. I would like something that looks sharp and has reasonable amount of power. I would like something as close as possible bolt in. Give me some ideas. Thanks

302 or 351 is the usual swap. The 351 is a tight fit but it will go in. Suggest you post this on the Late V8 forum (top right of opening page). Lot's more discussions re: this over there. Also check the archives at the top of the Late V8 openeing page. Good luck!

check front cross member these rotted out on a lot of them. major job if you find out after the motors in. has to come out again. cant be done with motor in the car. ken ct.

Not trying to perpetuate a non-Flathead thread but won't most or all Ford FE's bolt in anyplace a Y-Block originally sat?
