55 Ford car manual trans. & power steering question

Can anyone tell me what the clutch fork spring attaches to. Is there a bracket somewhere or a hole I am missing? Converting automatic to 4 speed. Also on a power steering car,the bracket that bolts on the inside of spring tower that supports the p.s. hoses, does it hang down toward the lower A arm or point up? Also the lines to the power steering piston, are they suppose to be on the underside of the piston or on the top Installing power steering on a car that never had it>

Re: 55 Ford car manual trans. question

there is a bracket that attaches to the frame via one of the bolts that goes through the steering gear case. (I think)

It is hard to locate if doing a conversion, I use simple angle iron for mine. Most guys who strip a car of those parts for a manual conversion fail to remove that part too. If you have an original automatic car that bracket just won't be there.

A photo from a dusty '55 T-bird project.
It might not be quite the same on other models, but maybe it helps.

Can you tell me on the piston for the power steering if the hoses are on the bottom side or on the top side? It would make them tough to tighten on the top side but more protected
Since you asked me here's what I've got, they're on the bottom side.
Unless you're doing a '55 T-bird it may not be the same, but this car was apparently built from parts so who knows what's right anyway. It was steering well last time I drove it.
If it was possible to turn this piston cylinder over, the hose connections would be backwards.

Thanks for that info. Actually The control valve and piston are probably the same. There may be a difference in tie rods though. To me they just didn't look right on the top near the oil pan. Thanks again....Sid

From the top... and noting the car is smaller / narrower than the full sized ones.
