54 mercury engine question

Would a Y block engine in a 54 Mercury have solid lifters??

It's not possible to switch to hydraulic lifters, there are no oil passages to support them.

I searched all over about Ford/mercury/Lincoln Y-bolcks and found nowhere where there was any info on lifters other than solids

If they are adjusted they are not that loud and part of the Y block charm. The Lincoln is the bigger style of Y block. When it was used in the large trucks it came with solids like the previous Lincoln flathead had done.

A correctly adjusted set of Y block rockers in good condition is one of the quietest setups around. Easily rivals a hydraulic lifter engine. Ford did a pretty good job on that part.
