53 Monterey temperature control valve

My car is missing the temperature control valve, it’s been bypassed with a lever type shut off valve. I bought a valve off EBay with the part number FAB-18502-B which is supposed to be correct for 52-53. The ports on the valve are way too small for the heater hoses. I also don’t see the two mounting holes in the fender or heater housing. Could someone please post a photo of the valve as mounted? Thanks

Tim,

Your valve should look like this. We had to cut off the smooth tube below the threads when we put one on Eric K's Mercury last year. I think he said he will send you a pic.

Thanks Ken. I have this cable coming thru the firewall which connects to the lever on the dash. Where would it connect to the valve you pictured?

The valve is vacuum controlled. There should be a vacuum line, not a cable. Hopefully Eric will get a pic to you.

This lever on the dash controls that cable. ????

This is the valve that corresponds to the only number shown for 52-53 in the parts book. The number is stamped on the valve. The parts book calls it Valve assy (heater temperature regulator)

I don't have access to a '53 Merc any more, but something seems amiss. I know on the one I was familiar with that a vacuum line came from under the dash.

Picture 1 - valve with vacuum line
Picture 2 - heater control valve with temp control cable and vacuum lines (on
heater core, below dash) to valve on block. The vacuum line on the left goes to the
vacuum supply and the other hose goes to the valve on the head.

Great pictures Cruzer! Now I have to look under the dash to see if the valve I just bought is already there. This is what’s screwed in my cylinder head. There are two lever type valves installed in the heater hoses running along the inside fender, obviously an incorrect add-on.

Cruzer, if you could also post a picture of the other end of the hoses on the valve in the head. Thanks. I have to figure why my control cable has been stuck thru the firewall to the engine bay.

My car is missing the whole housing that the valve mounts into under the dash. There’s a 5 3/4” opening between the radio and glove box. A cable is there and connected to the blower motor however, it works.

Cruzer, I sent you a private message with my phone number. If you could call me at your convenience. Thank you.

Here are a few picture of the water flow on the hoses along with a few pictures of the heater plenum

The control cable is under the dash. One end at at the control lever and the other end is at the heater core The only thing that goes through the firewall is the vacuum hose that goes to the valve in the passenger side head.

This picture shows the hose from the valve in the head, to the heater core box. The arrows show the direction of the water flow.

The cables that goes through the firewall are for the fresh air boxes, that feeds the air for the heater core on the passenger side and the fair air on the drivers side. Both are controlled by the levers on the dash.
