I’m considering buying a 53 Mercury convertible. What are the best sources for information on correct colors and trim appointments? Thanks.

I would advertise for a sales brochure for a 53 Mercury. They usually show all the body styles ,colors and options. Also check with the Early Ford V-8 Foundation as they may have some books or brochures on the 52-53 Mercury.

By 1953, FoMoCo had pretty good data plates for their cars. The codes were explained either in the chassis parts or body parts manuals. Ford also salesmen's manuals for their products that were used by the new car dealers but these manuals are very difficult to find in the modern era. Most convertibles had water resistant materials for the interior trim so their trim was less complicated than the closed cars.

This should be the information you are looking for. It is found, in the Body Parts Catalog for the 1953 Mercury. Feel free to e-mail (royd13483@aol.com) me, if you have additional questions regarding a 1953 Mercury Convertible, I would be more than happy to help or answer any questions you might have. Attaching a couple pictures of mine.
