53 Mercury power steering

I replaced the seals in the control valve assy.for a '53 Merc power steering,as I have done in many control valves.However this control valve is seeping on both ends.Also I sent the assist cylinder out to be rebuilt,that also is seeping at the shaft seal.Is there anything peculiar about the 53 unit that I may not be aware of??? Is the assist cylinder leaking after you sent it out for repair. I have had no luck with the seals that I have bought and installed myself from the venders. I have found the best bet is to send the parts to Tom Ripplinger. Phone 715 796 2119. Good Luck, Charles
