53 Mercury camshaft

Camshafts are an interesting topic. I have a cam that has 21A stamped in the end, but 5T cast on the shaft....and another that has 5T stamped on the end, and 21A cast on the shaft....what gives??

Can someone tell me what is the advantage of this over the 8ba? The engine in my Crestliner is a 3/4 grind of somesort and I don't like it. I have heard that the Mercury is better in some regard than the Ford. How do you identify a 53 Mercury camshaft?

Just out of interest, what do you not like about the cam in there now?
And do you actually know for certain it's got a 3/4 "of somesort"
I ask as if you don't know for certain what cam is in it, you could be swapping in the same cam! For instance, when you buy a car and chap says "it's got a 3/4 cam" kinda goes with "it ran great when I parked it", Were you just told that's what it had?

I'm not doubting your knowledge, I just don't want you doing unnecessary parts swapping.
Martin.

The Merc cam has around .330 lift whereas the Ford is .300. The cam will have either 8CM or 1CM cast somewhere along the length of the cam.

The EAB cam has been identified, what about the EAA Cam? This one came out of a 52-53" Merc Flathead engine?

I too have a cam that is marked EA A although it is marked slightly different than the one pictured in this quote. Is this the same as an EAB cam or what do I have???
