'53 Ford Gas Tank Interior Vent Pickup

If you were inside the gas tank, lying on the bottom, looking up at the vent tube pickup, you would see that it is oriented one these two ways.

The black paper represents the tank.

One way, labelled A, the tube points at an angle toward the rear of the tank (as seen from the front of the car) and the pickup opening is farther from the front end of the tank than it is in B.

The other way, labelled B, the tube points toward the right side of the tank (as seen from the front of the car) and the pickup opening is close to the front end of the tank.

Which is correct?

This is just a guess on my part,But under acceleration the gas moves to the rear so I would think it should point to the rear.
I know that it may not matter unless your tank is low on gas But with the prices being what they are I know mine would be on the low side most of the time LOL/LOL

Is this in fact a vent tube or just part of the fuel filler system that helps to prevent blow-back of fuel while filling?

If your tank sits level it probably makes no difference. If the tank is not level I would put it towards the high end of the tank.

Richard:
It was way to early with 1st post.Thought it was the pick up not the vent , so now I say to the front because of the gas getting pushed back on acceleration.
( I am still reserveing the right to change my answer at any time & for no reason at all ) LOL/LOL

Thanks for jumping on this. By pure chance I found an exploded illustration showing that part of the vent assembly positioned as in my version B.
