52 Ford Question

I have an early 52 crestline Victoria and everything I can find indicates 1949 to 1953 + used the spark control valve. I have a 3 speed overdrive and a loadamatic distributor which requires a spark control valve. ?

I think that the spark control valve (the thing that comes in most rebuild kits and looks like a power valve) came in with the 2100 series of Holley carbs for the later OHV V8's. I have never seen an "8BA" marked carb that had provision for one. I cannot be completely sure about '52-'53's because I've never had one. I can tell you that several years ago a ran an "EBU" marked Holley 94 as an interim while I rebuilt the "8BA" carb on my '51. An "EBU" is from a '54 239 OHV and the one I had definitely did not have provisons for a spark control valve either.

The OP might be referring to the vacuum control canister on the distributor. If that is the case, yes, all distributors from '49 to '53 used them.

Far-fetched, but possible. "Spark Valve" is the official name of an item added to late model 94's (2100's and 2110's).

The spark control valve was added to the base on the 94 style carburetors in 1954 on the 239 cubic inch Y-block V8 engines. Other than the spark control valve those 1954 carburetors were almost identical to the 52-53 carburetors, with the same top castings, venturis, etc. I will occasionally mix-and-match parts, using the base from an 8BA carburetor with the older nozzle bar design, and combining it with the top and nozzle bar parts of the later design when rebuilding a carburetor for a 49-53 Ford V8 (the center castings are interchangeable, use the one in better shape or that has the casting marks you prefer).
