52 Customline window crank

Any advice on removing the window crank & door handle? My 59 Ford had a special clip between a plastic shield & the handle. I wedged a special tool between the shield and the handle, and pushed the clip away. The handle just popped off. This car doesn't seem to have that weird clip. Anyone know what the trick is?
 
My '53 Customline has clips. Although the standard window handle release tool I have does not fit the spacing correctly. I had to use a slender putty knife and a mini flathead screwdriver to remove the clips on mine
 
No luck. I was able to pry the handle from the door panel and I can't see any clip. I've used a variety of clip-removing tools--I don't feel any clip either. Doesn't make any sense.
 
I don't know about '52's, but since "Zax40" has clips in his '53 and I have them on my '51, I believe the '52 must also have them.
 
Its been a few years but I remember having a difficult time removing the clips holding the door and window handle on my 52 Merc.
