A guy I know is searching for a 1952-1953 Fordomatic Torque Converter. Does anyone have one or know where to get one. Thanks Ray Balukas

Any 1P-series Borg Warner transmission converter should work whether its Ford-O or Merc-O-Matic. 1951 through 1953. I'm not sure about the 1954 with early Y-blocks but I think they were similar enough. Other than a half dozen older salvage yards around the country, Flea-Pay or C-List may be possibilities. Check with Fred at Southside Obsolete too. Owens Salvage here in Texas has a lot of old stuff. Other yards may be listed in Hemmings. The EFV8 club has listings for auto trans parts some times and so does Hemmings. Those old air cooled units are still out there if you know where to search.

Odd; but some construction equipment used those air-cooled converters. Mine got rebuilt at Vancouver transmissions, WA Newc.

You may get a result on The Early Ford V8 site too. Check it out. They have a parts for sale & a parts wanted area.

The OEM types bolt together with a large o-ring so they can be disassembled. I think some of the folks that do the Thunderbird transmissions have done conversions but some of those later types usually had some form of oil cooler. I know I've heard of the early 1P types getting modifications to use a later converter. Not as many folks doing that stuff these days but there may still be a few. Folks with the Thunderbird and Lincoln Mark II cars will pay the big bucks to get a functional medium case Ford-O or a Lincoln Turbo-Drive transmission. The Turbo-Drive was the large case type Borg Warner transmission.
