51 Fordomatic shift ranges?

I recently installed a rebuilt Fordomatic in my 51 Victoria. My porobem is it will not shift into 3rd. gear until about 50 MPH. Any ideas what is the cause and how to fix it? What are the normal shift MPH ranges?

Since the early O-matics don't have a vacuum sense, the shift point is set by throttle linkage position. There were tools to set the linkage to optimal settings with slight adjustments to get the shift at the correct speed. Intermediate to high shift should occur at 14 to 19 MPH unless the throttle is engaged for passing under the speed of 55 MPH. I have the process for adjustment in the 35 to 53 Motors Manual but a more advanced procedure would be in the Ford automatic trans manual for the early O-matics from 1950 thru 1953.

Well, I have your solution. I was given the spec's of that tool and a copy of it by a '51 Vicky owner! The car sold and the new owner didn't want it! For $15 shipping I can send it to you. PM me here in Oregon, and I'll hunt up that item tomorrow. I went thru a rough time with my '53 automatic behind a 6. The set-up tool only applies to the V8. Newc

Up date; Found the tool and instructions for Automatic trans set up thru '54 !! Pm me Newc

Have somebody push on the gas pedal, watch the linkage to the trans, adjust it so it doesn't move as far----go drive---adjust more till it gets where you like it

If adjusting doesn't change the shifting the problem could be internal, either way you should consult with the rebuilder for advice first.
