51 ford gas line

Is a 3/8 inch gas line too big for a stock v8 flathead two barrel from fuel pump to carb. If so will it use more gas? Is it safe to use the red plastic line? Thanks in advance.

You don't need that big of line. No, it won't use more gas, as the needle valve in the carburetor will shut the flow off according to the float setting; unless, of course, you have too much pressure.

As to the plastic line, I wouldn't. I'm sure the new stuff is less prone to get brittle and crack, but why take that chance? For sure you would have to keep your eye on it. You'll probably get differing opinions.
