hi guys ...I,v just received my parcel of goodies from C&G for my front spring shackle kit among other things for my 51 f.1 import . .sorry if the answer to you is obvious but I,v never done this before and I don't want to dive in without a bit of advice from the barn. first I,v removed the front springs and will take them tomorrow to get the old bushes pressed out and the new pushed in , when I first opened the package I put one of the new bolts through a bush and was surprised how loose fitting it was ,I was expecting a firm /tight fit almost like a king pin, the second thing is after the spring bushes which are the longest and thickest I am left with 4 thinner /shorter bushes ,I assume they go in the front spring hangers 2 in each or am I wrong. when I go to take the old bushes out can I expect it easy? ,with a drift? or is there a trick of the trade to remove them, I only received the parcel today and havnt crawled into the pit to have a detailed look ,thought I would ask first ,many thanks , jim.

The small thin ones are for the frame. Kinda hard to get out but if you can find or make a bushing driver knock them right out, Dont forget a litte grease for assembly and yes the other is for the spring shackle. The pin will be a little loose but not real sloppy.Once its assembled with grease fitting and lubed it will be tight. Good luck

get an all thread big enough to go inside the bushing, now get a big socket or pipe the bushing will slide into, run all thread thru it ,put on a flat washe and nut on the end, now get a socket or pipe that will go inside the spring hanger, run the all thread thru every thing, put a nut and washer on the end, now tighten the nut on the end you want to draw the bushing out of, to install put a big washer and nut on the all thread, put bushing in spring hanger hole run all thread thru bushing , on other end put another big washer and nut to cover hole, tighten nut and pull the bushing into the hanger, it will help to run a brake hone or emery cloth in the hanger hole to smooth it and make pulling bushing in easier

AFAIK, there are no replaceable sleeves inside the frame-mounted anchors for 48-52. When they get wallowed out, you need to replace or resort to weld-build-up and re-machining. I've had mine off twice and sure didn't see any sleeves (it would only be on the front), and I've heard others on other forums bemoaning the fact they can't get new frame pieces.

The spring bushings get compressed a little when pushed into the spring, I'll bet they'll be pretty tight when you get them back from the shop.

Yes only the front spring mount gets a bushing. Tough to get out. Possible that not all years have them. I usually see wear on the sides of this mount from the shackles not the bushing.

I am not sure what you mean by the bolt feeling loose. If it is the forward mount that is loose maybe the bushings are missing. All of the ones that I have done there was no extra play just a nice snug fit.

Being the packrat that I am I remove all the good spring mounts from a frame when parting one out. The rear mounts for the front springs seem to always be in the worst condition.

thanks guys , instead of attacking it with a 5 pound hammer I will study it and work a plan,i think the all thread system is worth a try ,I reckon they are all the original kit and will be nice and tough to remove , if it was easy it wouldn't be fun ,,,cheers jim.

thanks gearhead,a bit of work to do but the previous owner has spent serious cash on it,hoping to pick up my Christmas tree in it ,I,m working on this and my 39 coupe, not enough hours in the day, cheers jim.
